Shane Cooper is a bassist, composer and producer based in Cape Town, South Africa. His debut acoustic album Oscillations is out now on iTunes. In 2013 he was selected as the Standard Bank Young Artist for Jazz in South Africa. In 2014 Oscillations won the South African Music Award (SAMA) for Best Jazz Album. He also works regularly with the Kyle Shepherd Trio, the Reza Khota Quartet, the Bokani Dyer Trio, and Kesivan & The Lights. In the past he has also performed and/or recorded with artists like Zim Ngqawana, Lionel Loueke, Talvin Singh, Feya Faku, Louis Moholo-Moholo, Malcolm Braff, Nils Berg (The Stoner, Cinemascope), Marcus Wyatt, Soweto Kinch, Afrika Mkhize, Spoek Mathambo, Okmalumkoolkat, Nonku Phiri, Young Fathers, and more. As a composer for film Shane has written music for the award-winning documentaries Forerunners by Simon Wood, Port Nolloth: Between a Rock and a Hard Place by Felix Seuffert, and several others. He also co-composed music for the film Visa Vie by Elan Gamaker which won a SAFTA in 2011 for Best Feature Film Music Composition. Shane also writes and performs electronic dance music under the name Card on Spokes, with his latest EP ‘Sunwalker’ out now on iTunes via Cape Town label Naas. In September 2016 he is launching the new self-titled album with collab band Skyjack, including Kyle Shepherd, Kesivan Naidoo, Marc Stucki (CH), Andreas Tschopp (CH).
