Red Huxley is rock band from Cape Town, South Africa currently made up of Dylan Jones on guitar and vocals, Murray Stephenson on Drums and Joel Bronner on Bass. The bands sound stems from garage rock and blues rock and they blend melodic elements with the heavier ones. With a lighter garage blues side similar to early Black Keys and late 60’s Stones records to a much heavier rock sound reminiscent of Led Zeppelin, Foo Fighters, and Queens of the Stone Age. Dylan and Murray started out jamming in a squashed bedroom in 2010 and quickly made it onto the stage playing gigs with well known South African artists and at major festivals like Oppikoppi, Ramfest, Synergy Live and Up The Creek, which gave them all the exposure they needed to grow as a band. In August 2012, the band was lucky enough to go backstage at the event One Night in Cape Town and meet one of their favourite bands, The Eagles of Death Metal. They had other intentions in mind besides just meeting the band, and gave the guitarist, Dave Catching, their EP and asked if he would like to produce their debut album. Catching invited the band to his studio, Rancho de la Luna, in Joshua Tree, California to record. In March 2013, the band raised $25000 through a fund raising website kickstarter.com, in order to make it to California. They left South Africa in July 2013 and spent 3 weeks recording their album at Rancho de la Luna. Follow the story here. Upon their return in August 2013, the band hit the ground running and officially launched their album ‘Nothing More’ in November 2013. After successfully touring the country it was time to get back in studio. Red Huxley’s new 5 track EP, titled ‘Needle’s Eye’, was recorded by Dylan and Murray at Cape Audio College in August 2014 and released in December that year. Joel Bronner joined the lineup on Bass and the band continues to tour and perfect their energetic live shows.
